Brussels Sprouts

Oma’s recipe works equally well on carrot sticks or broccoli.

Trim stem of the brussels sprouts and remove outer leaves. Cut them in half and place in a saucepan face down. Add a splash of sunflower or canola oil, a splash of soy sauce, and a splash of water. Bring to a boil and turn heat down to simmer until veggies are soft and all the liquid has evaporated. Let lightly fry for another minute or so to brown.

The process uses the water and liquid in the soy sauce to steam the veggies and then utilizes the oil and soy sauce salty flavor to brown the face of the brussels sprouts.

Add water if you have to. But be careful to just add a little at a time, the water needs to be boiled off just as the veggies are soft.

No further spices are needed if you want the flavour of the veggies to shine through.
