Müsli

This is a meal we have every single day of every week. It’s just part of us and we don’t feel complete without it.

Our Müsli is not like the traditional Müsli from Tirol or the commercial Alpen Müsli you buy at the supermarket. It is our own private recipe that has evolved over many decades. And it takes on many variations – most of them seasonally – subject to the availability of fresh fruit.

Like other Müsli recipes, we start with a cup of oats. But not the large flake oats. We prefer the small flake also known as quick oats. For added protein we mix in a heaping tablespoon of roasted, ground sunflower seeds to make two servings. Instead of the traditional milk, we then add fruit juice. Orange juice was the standard for decades but more and more we are replacing that with grape juice, plum juice, and pear juice extracted from our own harvest.

Next we cut up a banana and maybe an orange. Again more recently we’ve substituted the orange with the abundance of fruit from our Town Lot Farm including figs, plums, pears, strawberries, apples, and grapes. We add a dollop of yogurt and/or a bit of our wonderful home made cream before dressing it with a bunch of fresh grapes or perhaps a bit of plum compote if fresh is not available.

Finally we top it with an olive leaf or two from our very own trees to boost our health and immune system.

As you see in the pictures our Müsli is always accompanied by a refreshing smoothie.
